Migration to IP Based Networks- Consultation paper Released By TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today released a Consultation Paper on “Migration to IP based Networks”. This migration will result existance IP based network with the legacy network. The new IP based network as well as its co-existence with legacy network will give rise to several operational, interconnection and quality of service issues which needs to be addressed for the successful migration to IP based networks.

The important issues that covers the consultation are:

  1. IP inter-connection issues.
  2. Co-existence of legacy network with IP based networks.
  3. Requirement of regulatory intervention in IP based interconnection.
  4. Interconnection requirement for application and content service providers.
  5. Quality of service issues.
  6. Various other operational issues- Sharing of network elements, emergency numbering etc
