Plans for Developing Telecom In Lakshwadweep Islands and Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Indian Government is planning on a development of Telecom for Lakshwadweep Islands and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. As per BSNL, it has recieved a proposal from LDA (Lakshawadeep Development Administration) for increasing bandwidth of BSNL network and SWAN (State Wide Area Netword). Currently as per BNSL the bandwidth availabe is not upto the mark in the Lakshadeep Island which limits connectivity in various areas of Lakshadeep Islands. Although the prevailing bandwidth is sufficient for mobile and ATM connectivity. For an enhance internet facility and mobile network additional bandwitch is required in the area as per the reports submitted by BSNL.

In this context, the Parliament was informed that the recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are awaited.
