Prototype Fast Breeder Reactors

Indian has been focusing on its fast breeder reactor programme. This can be exemplified with some sites where Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor is being contructed  at brisk pace. Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI), a Public Sector Undertaking is involved in contruction of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. This Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor will have a 500 MW capacity. The Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor project is being constructed  at rapid pace and is in final stage of commissioning of the Prototype Fast Breeder. The Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor project have been approved with a financial outlay of Rs. 5677 Crore. .

Furthermore, two more Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor are also planned on the same  each of the capacity of 600 MW. The Financials of these 2 Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor is still to be concluded.

The Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor will have cost saving on the tariff of electricity produced from PFBR as compared with contemporary base-load electricity generating technologies like coal based thermal power stations in the region.
